Must-have lists are abundant online, but few cater specifically to motorhome renters, especially with practical added value. We have deliberately omitted camping chairs and tables, bike racks, warning signs, barbecues, awnings, levelling blocks, EU gas cylinder adapters and the like, as these extras should either be included in the pricing or be available to book as a cost-effective add-on with any reputable rental provider.

To ensure your first holiday in a motorhome is relaxed and comfortable, there are several practical aids that have proven invaluable in everyday camping. Many of these are inexpensive but can make all the difference on the road.
🍕 Omnia or RoadBaker – the mobile oven
With an Omnia or RoadBaker, you can expand your on-the-go culinary options far beyond the classic canned ravioli, as you can suddenly bake rolls, casseroles, cakes or even pizza on the gas hob – all without an integrated oven.
🚰 Water thief – tap water almost anywhere
A water thief is a universal water connection that allows you to conveniently refill fresh water from taps with or without threads.
🛠️ Duct tape
The classic for on the road: whether it’s a loose flap, a torn mosquito net or a temporary repair – duct tape should not be missing from any motorhome.
👕 Washing line and pegs
Ideal for quickly and securely drying towels, swimwear or freshly washed clothes in the wind.
🔋 Solar panel, power bank or portable power station
Extra power for smartphones, tablets, cameras or laptops – especially useful when boondocking without a power hook-up.
☕ Bialetti or French press
For many campers, the day doesn’t truly begin without a good cup of coffee. Both options work without complex technology and are perfect for on the go.
📶 Mobile router
Anyone who wants reliable internet access on the road – for work, streaming or browsing – is well equipped with a mobile Wi-Fi router.
⛺ Tarp – additional shade
A tarp is a flexible tarpaulin that can be set up quickly and provides extra shade or rain protection. In summer, every shady spot becomes a favourite place.
🧩 Interlocking ground protection mats
These lightweight and easy-to-handle mats create a clean and pleasant surface in front of the motorhome. They also protect sensitive ground surfaces and provide comfortable walking comfort even barefoot.
🦟 Mosquito protection
Citronella candles create a pleasant atmosphere and keep many mosquitoes at bay. Even more effective are Thermacell devices – slightly more expensive but highly recommended, especially near lakes or rivers.
🗑️ Rubbish bags (approx. 20 litres)
For daily disposal and a clean motorhome: A roll of small bin bags takes up hardly any space and is indispensable in everyday camping life. The right size is often available for just a few pence at discount stores.
🧳 Vacuum bags
Perfect for storing bed linen, blankets or clothes in a space-saving way. This creates more storage space in the motorhome.
📌 Adhesive hooks (transparent and removable without residue)
Ideal for towels, dishcloths or light items. They can usually be attached without drilling and removed again without any problems later.
🛴 Foldable e-scooter
For the journey from the campsite to the supermarket, beach or old town, a foldable e-scooter is often more practical and easier to transport than a bicycle.
🔌 Good USB cables and extension leads
Pack high-quality USB cables that can both charge and transfer data. It is also worth bringing at least one extension lead with a 3-way socket splitter – on campsites, sockets are not always directly at the pitch.
This list contains only items that have proven themselves in practice. Of course, you don’t need everything for your first camping holiday – but many of these little helpers make the trip more comfortable, more relaxed and often a little easier.
